Theora is a general purpose, lossy video codec. It is based on the VP3 video codec produced by On2 Technologies (http://www.on2.com/).Theora contains a superset of the features that were available in the original VP3 codec. it can be used to distribute film and video online and on disc. Theora scales from postage stamp to HD resolution, and is considered particularly competitive at low bitrates.
